Cleanroom Design & Installation

Clean Space’s range of custom-built, ISO class modular cleanrooms create controlled manufacturing environments, providing you with a clean working area, classified for your process and application.

At the forefront of the industry, our experienced team continue to supply premium clean air solutions to sectors including hospitals, research laboratories, manufacturing facilities and leading private and Government organisations around the world.

ISO 14644 defines a cleanroom as...

"A defined space within which the number and concentration of airborne particles is controlled and classified, and which is constructed and operated in a manner to control the introduction, generation, and retention of contaminants inside the space."

ISO 14644 is the global standard for cleanroom design and validation, but some industries and countries do still reference the old Standard 209D which defines a cleanroom as:

"A room in which the concentration of airborne particles is controlled to specified limits."

Cleanroom Classifications

Cleanrooms are classified by how clean the air is. In Industry Standard 209 (A to D), the number of particles equal to and greater than 0.5µm is measured in one cubic foot of air, and this count is used to classify the cleanroom. This metric nomenclature is also accepted in the most recent 209E version of the Standard. Standard 209E is used domestically. The newer standard is TC 209 from the International Standards Organization. Both standards classify a cleanroom by the number of particles found in the laboratory’s air. The cleanroom classification standards FS 209E and ISO 14644-1 require specific particle count measurements and calculations to classify the cleanliness level of a cleanroom or clean area.

In the UK, British Standard 5295 is used to classify cleanrooms. This standard is about to be superseded by BS EN ISO 14644-1.
